So... who am I?

Hi, I'm Alan G. Frausto. I'm a composer born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, based in Oslo, Norway. I've been passionate about music ever since I was a kid. Our house was always filled with classical music, progressive rock, and a lot of good heavy metal. I first started studying music at a very young age, beginning with the electric guitar and then moving on to the piano. I quickly fell in love with orchestration, counterpoint, and harmony, and I haven't looked back since.

I've been fortunate enough to have studied with great teachers in contemporary composition, such as Luis Zepeda Andalzua, Jorge Horacio López Estévez, Angelo Prezza, and Asbjørn Schaathun, amongst many others. I've also taken courses and masterclasses with composers such as Mario Lavista, Juan Pablo Contreras, Gaute Storås, Ragnar Bjerkreim, Nicholas Sillitoe, Kaja Saariaho, Jonas Forsell, Richard Bellis, James Dillon, Steve Vai, and Tony MacAlpine amongst others.

My career started in Guadalajara at the Academy of Music Fermatta, where I finished my bachelor degree in Music Composition. Because of that, I ended up writing music for the Jalisco State choir. It was was also during this time that I began to work with music in Theater. My music was featured in a national representation of the theater piece "La casa de Bernarda de Alva" in Guadalajara. Consequently, I began to work with Alfonso Ramírez, which led to me writing music for his representations of Chamber Music, No Exit, Shakespeare Unabridged and 5 Women wearing the same dress. Later I started my masters degree in Film Composition at the Academy of Music in Norway (NMH). There I began a new path, which led me to work mainly with the audiovisual media. It was here that I wrote the music to my first feature film Kometen (The Comet), and thereafter Swamp Lion. I have since continued working in film, with compositions credits in short films such as Liremu Barana, Maur, Runaway, Close, Månebrødre and Jordbærsmør.

I also wrote my first musical, Jenter som oss, with lyrics and script by Jan Elisabeth Lindvik. As an orchestrator, I've worked for the TV Docu-series Frontkjempere, which included amazing music written by Morten Rognskog. I've also had the pleasure of working with Helena Maria Falk on her album Nordic Lullabies, and with the singer-songwriter, Amadour, on their new single Angel Eyes (You are watching me).
As a  classical composer, I've been fortunate enough to write the piece, Duelo, for the Nashville Ballet, which was choreographed  by Diana Paula Paredes and recorded by KORK (The Norwegian Radio Orchestra). I also wrote my first Cello Concerto (Cello Concerto No. 1), which was premiered by Elfi Maria Øhre Marcussen (Cello) in Stockholm Sweden. During this time I was also granted the TONO Stipend for composers, which led me to continue my musical studies in traditional and folk music in Norway.
